If you mess up, and send some of your email subscribers an email you didn’t intend to, you better own up to it (and send an apology email). The same day. Here’s a great example of one I received today (identities changed to Cyrus and Co):
Earlier this morning I received an email that made me say WTF, who is this guy and why am I receiving this?
A few hours later…the Marketing VP emailed this:
Subject: Sorry for disrupting your inbox this morning!
Message:
You’re probably wondering why Miley Cyrus from CyrusCO sent you an email about Affiliate Summit East this morning. He didn’t — it was us in marketing. I’m very sorry for the confusion, and feel terrible about disrupting your day with an unwelcomed email.
Due to an email distribution logic error (plus one overzealous pinky), we mistakenly sent you an event-related email meant for a small group of Miley’s contacts.
However, if you do want to catch up and chat for any reason, I’m happy to connect you with the right person at CyrusCO to schedule a call!
Again, I apologize and hope you have a great rest of your day.
Thanks,
Jennifer (woops, I mean Billy) 😉—
